The Space Between, Part II
We’ve been exploring ways to enhance the Firefox user experience, increase user control over personal information, and provide new opportunities for developers to build innovative online experiences; and specifically, how we can achieve this through deeper integration of the browser with online services.
This is but one approach to the problem. Here's the idea:
- we move browser metadata into the cloud
- we transparently reflect this data everywhere an individual gets online
- we provide a basic framework for easily sharing and collaborating with friends and family
- we develop tools and APIs for developers to extend this framework and to provide new user experiences
Jay Sullivan has posted some ideas on how this sort of approach could make the personalized experience portable.
We've also set out some basic organizing principles to help frame the approach that we'd like to explore.
What do you think? Join us over at Mozilla Labs as we start to put together the building blocks and framework for exploring this idea further.

Can we right from the "git.go" associate Weave with "synchronized web"? If that's correct then we should settle on a canonical tag ... sync or sync.web or web.sync or something.

It would be good if it becomes a specification or an API that can be used by other Service Providers. Something similar to OpenSocial API. I mean even Reference Implementation of Server is also open source. How about existing standards like WebDav ? aren't they sufficient serve the purpose ? I mean Mozilla opens FF Data with existing spec ?
